Swedish Embroidery from my visit to Stockholm
I was lucky enough to visit my friend Lina in Stockholm last year and was amazed at the beautiful city with open spaces and water. While there I went to study the Folk art at the Nordiska museet where I spent a pleasant afternoon sketching and taking notes.
Some of my favourite pieces included this appliqued bag with pom-poms.
Traditional white and red patterns and designs
And a piece with this woven bird on Using my sketches and photographs I worked on an embroidered wool design of flowers
and an appliquéd and hand embroidered composition of iconic Swedish images including the flowers, birds, horse and hearts .
I then made a winter seasonal bucket bag which I love.
I enjoyed using the soft felts and bold colours I had bought in Stockholm and enhancing the design with a variety of hand stitches and beads.
